BiographyEnlisting as a private soldier, Bob served in the Australian Army for 25 years retiring as a major in 1988. He then joined the Australian Protective Service, now the security division of the Australian Federal Police, and retired as Chief Superintendent, Commander Queensland Region in 1998.
Bob has long been an enthusiastic amateur cartoonist and has been published in numerous journals and magazines including the Bulletin, Nation Review and Army News. After retirement, Bob sought a new artistic direction and took up painting with acrylics in 2001. Combining his natural bent for cartooning with an unreserved and naturalistic approach to the subject at hand Bob produces work replete with colour, humour, satire and insightful, if somewhat cryptic, social comment. He has held and contributed to successful exhibitions in Brisbane, Nambour, Peregian, Mackay, Sarina and Walkerston. In both 2010 and 2011, Bob won first prize in the Oil/Acrylic section of the Sarina Art Extravaganza and was runner-up in the open section of the Mackay Art Society annual competition in 2012.
